Infectious disease specialist and Head, professor of Department of Infectious Diseases, Inflammation Center, Helsinki University Hospital. Past-president of NSCMID.
My research interests are in bacteremias and especially in Staphylococcus aureus bacteremia, skin and soft tissue infections, COVID-19, and more recently in osteomyelitis and osteonecrosis.
Elisa Kortela
Infectious diseases specialist at the Inflammation Center, Helsinki University Hospital.
My research interests are mainly tick-borne diseases, especially Lyme borreliosis, but I have done also research related to COVID-19.
Harri Marttila
Infectious disease specialist, Department of Hospital Hygiene and Infection Control, Turku University Hospital.
Research interests include tuberculosis, AMR, and surgical infections.
Jessica Tikkala
Resident physician, Department of Clinical Microbiology, Turku University Hospital. PhD student at Turku University. Member of the Borrelia Research group of the Åland Islands.
My research interests are tick-borne infections and especially tick-borne encephalitis and emerging tick-borne infections.
Jukka Hytönen
Professor of Bacteriology in the University of Turku, and chief physician of clinical microbiology in Turku University Hospital.
My research interest is in tick-borne diseases (TBDs). Especially I am studying the pathogenesis of Lyme borreliosis, and developing novel diagnostics for LB and also for other TBDs.
Marika Nordberg
Specialist in infectious diseases, serving as both a clinician and consultant, with a key responsibility for infection prevention at Åland Islands Healthcare Services. My research interests are tick-borne infections, with particular emphasis on tick-borne encephalitis and borreliosis. Additionally, I lead The Borrelia Research Group of the Åland Islands.
Marjaana Pitkäpaasi
Epidemiologist, The Finnish Defence Forces/Centre for Military Medicine. Clinician in Infectious Diseases and Internal Medicine, Åland Health Services, Finland.
My research interests are in healthcare-associated infections, MRSA and tickborne infections.
Olli-Pekka Lehtonen
Specialist and Docent in Clinical Microbiology. Since 1996 I held various medical chief positions in Finnish Health Care, lastly 2016-2021 in Åland Islands. Now retired
Paula Tähtinen
Specialist in Pediatrics at Turku University Hospital and Adjunct Professor and Clinical Lecturer at the University of Turku, Finland.
The main focus of my research is the prevention and treatment of pediatric respiratory tract infections, especially acute otitis media. I am actively involved in the development of scientific and professional education at the University of Turku. I have also served as a Young ESPID country representative and a committee member at the ESPID Research Networking Committee and a Board Member of ESWI.
